1. How many plates fit on a barbell?
Thanks to their low thickness, our Iron Plates can be loaded in especially large quantities. On a Sigma Barbell with a sleeve length of 16.5", 11 plates of 45 lb each fit per side, which corresponds to a total weight of 1,035 lb including the 45 lb bar. Even an entire 425 lb Set of Iron Plates would fit on a barbell.
2. What material is used for the weight plates and how robust are they?
We use what is known as ductile (nodular) cast iron, which is also frequently used for manufacturing automotive components, wheels, gearboxes, and machine frames. The iron is cast in class 30 and offers high tensile strength and corrosion resistance. The robust paint finish completes the long-lasting rust protection.
3. What is the advantage of cast iron plates?
Cast Iron/Steel: Classic, long-lasting, and often affordable plates. They are very robust and, thanks to their comparatively low thickness, especially space-saving to store. In addition, thanks to their thin design, many plates can be loaded on a barbell at the same time, which makes them ideal for high training weights.
4. How do I care for my weight plates?
Cast Iron: Clean off dust and sweat regularly. For light traces of rust, treatment with vinegar can help; afterwards, care for them with a little oil or rust protection.
